Global Choking Prevention Week
February 22-28 is Global Choking Prevention Week. Choking can happen to anyone at any age, but children under age five are at greatest risk for choking injury and death. Choking and suffocation are responsible for almost 40% of unintentional injuries in infants under the age of one in Canada.
Global Choking Prevention Week is a global strategy to reduce these preventable injuries and deaths due to choking, especially among children, through raising awareness and seeking solutions. Please visit Be Smart, Don’t Choke for more information about choking hazards and choking prevention. This website is intended for parents, caregivers, preteens, teenagers and provides ideas for communities who wish to raise awareness of choking prevention. You can also join the Be Smart, Don’t Choke community on Facebook and on Twitter.
