The BC Emergency Department Injury Surveillance System (EDISS), funded by the Ministry of Health Services, is operated under the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit (BCIRPU). The main purpose of EDISS is to provide local injury information that can be used to plan and evaluate community injury prevention programs. Information regarding first presentation of all injuries, either intentional or unintentional, was abstracted, coded and transmitted to BCIRPU for analysis and interpretation.
This report examines falls-related injury cases from April 1, 2001 to March 31, 2003. Only cases treated and released, left without being seen, or refused treatment are presented in this report.
