All Motor Vehicle Injury and Offroad Motor Vehicle Injury Hospitalizations in BC, 2001/02 – 2008/09

This report was prepared in light of growing interest from BC Health Authorities (HAs) regarding the distribution of the relative burden of managing motor-vehicle (MV) injury patients in BC. Given individual travel patterns and the location of trauma care centres in BC, MV injury patients may not necessarily be treated at hospitals located in their HA of residence. As a result, the distribution of the burden of treating MV injury patients across HAs may not be proportional to the distribution of MV injury patients by HA of residence. This report analyzed the relative distribution of MV injury hospitalizations by HA of residence of patients, and HA location of hospitals where they were treated.
