These easy-to-use online data tools facilitate and simplify access to:

National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) data for Lower Mainland emergency department (ED) visits: There are total of 30 facilities in the province that reported to NACRS in 2020/21 in BC—most of the facilities are located in the Lower Mainland. NACRS does not report the external cause of morbidity (V01-Y98) that is typically used to identify the intent or the external cause of injury. The tool includes ED visits for injuries, identified by diagnosis codes S00–T89 in any of the three diagnosis columns. This tool provides information on all levels of ambulatory care within the Lower Mainland, including all EDs. It includes ED visits from hospitals in the Lower Mainland, including Fraser Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, and PHSA, covering both BC residents and non-BC residents. Hospitals in Interior Health, Northern Health, and Island Health are excluded due to low reporting compliance in NACRS.
‍Canadian Hospitals Injury Reporting and Prevention Program (CHIRPP) data for BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH): CHIRPP is an injury and poisoning surveillance system that collects and analyzes data on injuries to people who are seen at the emergency departments of 11 pediatric hospitals and 8 general hospitals in Canada. CHIRPP has unique, detailed data of "pre-event" injury information obtained by asking: What was the injured person doing when the injury happened? What went wrong? Where did the injury occur? The BCCH CHIRPP dataset reflects all visits to the emergency department of BC Children’s Hospital, including visits by both BC residents and non-residents. Data is collected on-site in the BCCH emergency department via a form that is handed out to the patient at the time of registration and asked to be filled out. The CHIRPP coordinator reviews all ED visits daily to ensure all injuries have been captured comprehensively and accurately. Data can help identify trends and patterns in injury-related emergency department visits among children and youth at BC Children’s Hospital, and support research, reports, and injury business case planning.
